A father's love is just as important to a child's development as a mother's, and sometimes more so, suggests a new review of

about 100 studies published between 1949 and 2001.

Researchers found that, overall, the love -- or rejection -- of mothers and fathers equally affects kids' behavior, self-esteem,

emotional stability, and mental health. "But in some cases, the withdrawal of a father's love seems to play a bigger role in kids' problems with personality and psychological adjustment, delinquency, and substance abuse," says study coauthor Ronald P.

Rohner, Ph.D., director of the Center for the Study of Parental Acceptance and Rejection at the University of Connecticut in

Storrs. And for others, the presence of a father's love may do more to boost children's sense of well-being and improve their

emotional and physical health.

More research is needed to explain these connections. The issue is not who's more important, says Dr. Rohner, but recognizing

that dads are key in all the ways moms are. "We hope findings like these will encourage men to become more involved in their children's care," he says. "Then the whole family benefits."

Two new books reinforce the importance of a father's involvement. In The Man Who Would Be Dad, Hogan Hilling recounts

personal stories of being the stay-at-home dad of three sons. He points out that mothers and fathers need to trust each other

to care for their children in their own way. "Moms also need to encourage their husbands to participate in their children's care,

whether it's dressing the baby or going to doctor's appointments," says Hilling, who has helped develop several dad programs in

the Los Angeles area.

In Dads and Daughters, advocate Joe Kelly explains that a father's relationship with his daughter is important because he's the

first man she'll get to know in life. In other words, he's the standard for what she'll expect of a man and lifelong partner. Kelly,

who is the executive director of Dads and Daughters, a national nonprofit organization based in Duluth, MN, encourages fathers

to listen to their girls and -- just as they would with their boys -- be physically active with them. "A father who plays with his

daughter -- shooting hoops, kicking a ball around, taking walks together -- is making a payment on an insurance policy that

she'll grow up to be confident and strong," he says.

مقاله های انگلیسی جالبی را که می خوانم در این جا با شما یه اشتراک می گذارم. تصمیم ندارم معنی کلمات دشوار مقالات را دربیاورم یا ترجمه شان کنم، صرفا مقاله را به خاطر جالب بودنش می گذارم ( هم تمرین زبان است، هم تفریح و هم آموزنده! ) ولی اگر کلمه یا عبارتی بود که با آن به مشکل برخوردید حتما در بخش نظرات همان مقاله اعلام بفرمایید. هر کمکی از دستم بر بیاد در خدمتم!

کن نزبیت ( Kenn Nesbitt ) شاعر کودکان است.

اولین مجموعه ی اشعار او، " My Foot Fell Asleep " در سال 1998 منتشر شد و او تا به امروز 15 کتاب از خود به جای گذاشته است.

او در بخشی از سایتش، www.Poetry4kids.com ، فایل صوتی تعدادی از اشعارش را به صورت پادکست منتشر می کند. از مزایای این مجموعه پادکست می توان به موارد زیر اشاره کرد:

• این اشعار کوتاه اند بنابراین هر فایل صوتی حجم ناچیزی دارد.
• اشعار برای همه ی سنین مناسب می باشند و با این که شعر ها برای کودکان سروده شده اند ولی محتوای بامزه و خنده دارشان برای بزرگسالان نیز جالب و سرگرم کننده خواهد بود.
• متن همه ی اشعار که به صورت پادکست منتشر شده اند در سایت موجود است.

اگر وقت کافی و یا حوصله برای تمرین listening ندارید یا به دنبال منبعی جدید برای زبان آموز خردسالتان هستید این پادکست ایده آل است.

برای خواندن بقیه ی اشعار به ادامه ی مطلب بروید. 

این اصطلاح در مورد افرادی به کار می رود که از هر چیزی تا حدی می دانند و در آن مهارت دارند ولی در هیچ زمینه ای حرفه ای نیستند.

اما قضیه ی این اصطلاح خیلی جالب تر از این هاست...

اولین نکته: مثل این که عبارت به صورتی که امروزه به کار می رود، ناقص است و شکل اولیه و کاملش این گونه می باشد.

".Jack of all trades, master of none, but oftentime better than master of one "

این عبارت ( Jack of all trades ) می تواند هم یک تعریف تلقی شود و هم ناخوشایند باشد... برای %2 جمعیت کره ی زمین که معمولاً با این نام ها شناخته می شوند(دومین نکته) :

 multipotentialite

generalist

 slasher

scanner

multipassionate

و... نام های دیگر!

خب، کجای این حرف برای این " همه چی دون " ها ناراحت کننده است؟

این عبارت این مفهوم را دارد که کسی که چنین ویژگی را دارد، اگرچه از خیلی چیزها سر در می آورد ولی در هیچ کدام از آن ها به پای متخصصین آن رشته نمی رسد و اگر برای شرکت در یک پروژه/شغلی در هر کدام از این زمینه ها اقدام کرد معمولاً قبولش نخواهند کرد و فردی که " specialist " هست بر او ارجعیت داشته و استخدام خواهد شد، و این بر می گردد به بخش غلط باور: " این افراد در هیچ زمینه ای حرفه ای نیستند. " اما این در مورد همه ی multipotentialite ها درست نیست و گروهی از این افراد وجود دارند که در دو یا چند تا از رشته هایی که دنبال می کنند تخصص دارند و به همین دلیل " Polymath " یا همان " علامه " خوانده می شوند( البته به این معنا نیست که فقط افرادی که قبل از اسمشان " علامه " آمده این گونه اند؛ شاید کسی را یشناسید که تعریف در او صدق کند ولی مسلماً نمی گویید:" ایشان خواهر/برادر/... من، علامه [...] هستند." نه؟ ). این را هم اضافه کنم که این افراد خلاق تر اند.

اول از همه، خیلی صادقانه بگویم: خودم آشنایی چندانی با این وبسایت ندارم!!

در این حد می دانم که نویسنده ی این سایت کارش را از وبلاگ 1000idioms شروع کرد. این وبلاگ ( نقل قول ) " کلکسیونی از اصطلاحات انگلیسی روز صد در صد آمریکاییه که تو کمتر سایت یا وبلاگ فارسی زبان می بینین که به این سبک نوشته شده باشن. البته فقط اصطلاح نیست...".

با این که بیشتر مطالب این وبلاگ را نخوانده ام ولی واقعاً این گفته را قبول دارم.

هم در وبلاگ و هم در وبسایت پست هایی منتشر شده اند ( و می شوند ) که نسبتاً طولانی اند؛ ولی خیلی خلاصه می گویم:  واقعاً کشش و جذابیت دارند.

در کل هر دو منبعی عالی برای تقویت زبان بوده و مخاطب را به خوبی با زبان محاوره ای آمریکایی آشنا می کنند.

حتماً سر بزنید،
